Ask, Seek, Knock… He Is Mighty

Why would God let me struggle?

If you’ve ever found yourself facing adversity, overwhelmed by the weight of a trial you didn’t see coming, it’s tempting to fall into frustration, fear, or even bitterness. We often ask, “Why me?” or worse, “Where is God in this?” But pause and consider this: what if the path you’re walking was not laid to break you, but because God knew you could walk it? What if the very struggle that seems so unfair was chosen for you not as a punishment, but as preparation? Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) reminds us of God's intention: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God's path for you may include steep climbs and difficult seasons, but He never abandons you to them.

When hardship hits, our human instinct is to either run from God or try to outthink the problem with logic, strategy, and willpower alone. While God absolutely gives us minds to reason and strength to act, we were never meant to face spiritual battles with human tools. Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV) teaches, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” When we rely solely on ourselves, we often spiral deeper into confusion. But when we turn to Him, He offers peace, clarity, and strength that we cannot manufacture on our own.

God does not create evil or misfortune, He is a good and holy God. But in His sovereignty, He may allow us to go through valleys, knowing those valleys can produce depth, endurance, and purpose in our lives. Romans 5:3–4 (ESV) says, “We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” That trial isn’t random. It’s part of a divine sequence designed to build you, not break you. Each challenge shapes you for what’s ahead, fitting you for your calling, one step at a time.

So when you’re tempted to blame God or ignore His quiet urging to draw near in your pain, consider instead that He is near, waiting for you to lean in, not pull away. Isaiah 43:2 (AMP) promises, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you.” God has not abandoned you in your trial, He’s walking it with you. He believes in what He placed inside you, even when you can’t see it yourself.

Maybe you’ve been chosen to face something hard not because you’re weak, but because God knew you were the one who could make something greater out of it. That isn’t a burden, it’s a commission. So instead of shrinking back, rise up. Let your struggle be a stage for God’s power, and your scars be proof that His grace was enough. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV) says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” What feels like your breaking point might just be the beginning of your breakthrough.
